Great-Grandfather Thomas

My Great-Grandfather Thomas

For this layout I used papers by Blue Fern Studios from their Chesterville collection:

These are the dies I used:

Spellbinders - Romantic Rectangles 2
Spellbinders - Captivating Squares
Spellbinders - Floral Assortment
Spellbinders - Postage Stamp

As usual I layered each die-cut over a darker version to accentuate the edges.

These are the chipboard pieces I used:

Dusty Attic - Scroll #8
Blue Fern Studios - Formal Corners
Blue Fern Studios - Diamonds and Loops
Blue Fern Studios - Mixed Chains

I painted the Scroll #8 white and applied Viva Decor crackle paint in the Antique colour.  I then inked around the edges in black.

For the Formal Corners,  I heat-embossed them with Distress Embossing Powder in Black Soot. They were a little too dark so I rubbed some taupe coloured paint overtop with my fingertip.

I embossed the Mixed Chains with Stampendous Frantage embossing enamel in Aged Ivory using clear ink.

I originally embossed the Diamonds and Loops chipboard with the Black Soot embossing powder but it looked too heavy and rubbing paint over it to dull it just made it disappear into the background so I went over it with the Aged Ivory embossing enamel.

Thank you so much for taking a look!

  1. Nice!!! Another handsome masculine layout! Beautiful design and I always love the tiny touches of buttons/brads that you use.

    1. Thanks Vicki! I did hesitate a bit before buying this paper. I really liked it but wasn't sure I would be able to make a layout with all that busy grungy texture in the background.
