Halloween Puppy

My son, Evan, in 2002

When my boys were younger I made a number of Halloween costumes for them. Not quite sure why. I hated sewing when I was forced to do it for Family Studies/ Home Ec class in middle school.  But as a stay-at-home mom I figured I was obligated to put in some extra effort at something, lol.  This was my first attempt at using a sewing pattern in 2001. Unfortunately, I made it way too large so Evan didn't wear it until the following year  (I made another smaller one that he wore in 2001 and lent the larger one to my niece that year).

For this layout, I made my own background again with Ranger Specialty Stamping paper, stencils, molding paste and Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays.

These are the stencils I used:

Tim Holtz - Latticework
Prima - Floral Petites
Prima - 12"x12" Crackle

These are the Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays I used:

Van Dyke Sepia, Red Hot Poker Orange, Cocoa Bean Copper, Cattail Copper Brown and Mission Bells Brown.

The die-cuts were cut from a dark brown thin metal sheet and then sanded lightly. Most of the coloured metal sheets available now are rather bright. The dark brown piece I used was an old one from my stash from Ten Seconds Studio.  You can make your own custom colours by cutting the pieces from plain aluminum sheets and painting them with Vintaj Patina paints before sanding.

These are the dies I used:

Spellbinders - Labels 47 Decorative Elements
(note:the actual die lacks some of the border details pictured here)
Spellbinders - Splendid Circles

Meghan

My niece, Meghan, when she was little

This layout was inspired by the Lindy's Stamp Gang April Colour Challenge and the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge for this week which was "Make Your Own Background".

These are the Lindy's Stamp Gang products I used:

Greased Lightning Green, Pink Ladies Pink, Summer Lovin' Sun, Hibiscus Rose, Danny Zuko's Denim and Twinkling Tinsel (from the Winter Wonderland Set).

I mixed Hibiscus Rose and Danny Zuko's Denim to make a purple resembling the Magnolia Magenta Gold from the colour challenge graphic and used the Twinkling Tinsel to add a bit of shimmer to the background.

The textured background was created with molding paste and stencils on white paper (Ranger Specialty Stamping Paper).  I misted the background and dripped the different colours overtop, misting with water again to make the colours spread more.  I used just a hint of Summer Lovin' Sun around the edges with the Greased Lightning Green.

Prima stencil - Poppies and Peonies
Memory Box stencil - Splatter

The chipboard pieces are all from Blue Fern Studios:

Floral Medley Frame
Blue Fern Flourish - large
Blooming Foliage

The frame was painted with Viva Decor Ferro Metal Effect colour in Gold Iron.  I added touches of pink paint, Distress Stickles in Victorian Velvet and green microbeads and then dry-brushed lightly over the  top with white paint.

I used white Viva Decor crackle paint over a green basecoat for the flourish and then painted it with the Greased Lightning Green spray.

I had cut the blooming foliage piece to use in my previous layout and used a couple of the leftover pieces for this one.  I painted them and applied distress stickle to the leaves and berries.

I also did some random border stamping with green ink around the edges of the layout and some stamping with brown ink with texture stamps.

Coca-Cola Girl

My sister, Linda, in 1965, holding an almost empty bottle of Coca-Cola

I'm continuing with my white paper, multimedia experimenting. For the background, I used a piece of Ranger Specialty Stamping paper.   I simply stencilled with molding paste, misted with water, dripped Lindy's Stamp Gang Sprays overtop and misted with water randomly to make the colours mix and spread.

These are the stencils and spray colours I used:

Prima stencil - Stain
Crafter's Workshop mini template -
Grid

Kissin' Kenickie Coral
Tears on My Pillow Tangerine
Autumn Maple Crimson

Rizzo's Rowdy Red
Clam Bake Beige

Don't Eat Yellow Snow
(from the Winter Wonderland Set)

This is the punch I used around the edges:

Martha Stewart PATP set - Lace Flower

The chipboard pieces are all from Blue Fern Studios.

Bohemian Flowers
Mixed Chains
Blooming Foliage

I cut some of the leaves off the Blooming Foliage piece then applied clear ink and embossed all of the chipboard with Stampendous Frantage Embossing Enamel in Aged Black.
