Nanky Poo

My sister Nancy in 1966

I should probably start by explaining the title of this layout.  When we were children, my mother liked to give us silly nicknames that rhymed with each other. My sister Nancy was called Nanky Poo and I was Trailer Boo.

For the background I used a piece of 7 Dots Studio paper from their Cotton Candy Dreams collection.

I did some stamping on the background in grey ink.

As usual, I layered all the die-cut pieces over a black version, offsetting them slightly to accentuate the edges.

I embossed the chipboard pieces with Walnut Stain Distress Embossing Powder but I didn't like how dark they looked so I embossed them again with a light sprinkling of Dried Marigold Distress Embossing Powder.

I layered all of the dies except the small leaves over a black copy, offsetting them slightly to accentuate the edges. For the small leaves, I traced around the edges and veins with a fine-tipped brown marker (Zig Writer).

I embossed the trim with Stampendous Embossing Enamel in Aged Taupe.

The large flowers are some old Petaloo ones from my stash.  The small pink and purple flowers are by 49 and Market.

Tired Boys

My boys in 2010

For this layout, I used a piece of Blue Fern Studios paper from their Wanderlust collection.

Leafy Corner Flourish Set

I lightly brushed some white paint over the Celtic Border piece with my fingertip.

I embossed the Leafy Corners with Verdigris Ranger Antiquities embossing powder but didn't like how it looked with the flowers so I embossed it again with Pumice Stone Distress Embossing Powder. Some of the verdigris colour showed through giving an overall effect of pale green which I liked.  I inked around the edges with Dark Brown Colorbox Chalk Ink.

The clay pieces were made with molds and Sculpey Ultra Light.  I painted them with Prima Finnabair Stone Effect Paste in the pumice colour and sprayed the dried pieces with Walnut Gold Glimmer Mist. I then rubbed white paint over the raised areas with my fingertip to bring out the details.

I also painted some loose weave burlap with watery white paint and tucked it under the bottom of the photo.

The flowers were a mixture of different brands including Petaloo, Little Birdie Crafts, 49 and Market, Wild Orchid Crafts and Prima.

Nancy

This is my 5th project using the beautiful Scraps of Elegance July Kit, Country Chic, featuring 49 and Market Cottage Life paper.

My sister Nancy in 1965

I used the Main KitPatterned Paper Add-onElements Add-on and Floral Add-on.

Elements Add-on

I started with the Branching Out paper included in the Main Kit.  I did some punching around the edges and some random stamping using Cobalt Archival Ink.  I also did some inking around the edges of the paper and over the stamped areas with the cobalt ink using a Clarity stencil brush.

Gabi's Ethereal Stamp Set

This page was layered over the Fresh Delivery paper (in the Main Kit) to show through the punched areas. The center of the Fresh Delivery paper was cut out to make a circular mat for the photo.

I then made some die-cuts using another piece of the Branching Out paper from the Patterned Paper Add-on and the Provence paper from the Main Kit.  These were layered over a black cardstock version and offset slightly to accentuate the edges.

These are the dies and punch I used:

The flowers and butterflies were all from the Elements Add-on and Floral Add-on.

The metal filigree piece was from the Main Kit.

The other trinkets, button and chipboard flourishes were from my stash. I embossed the chipboard pieces with the Lindy's Stamp Gang Pop Rock Purple embossing powder included in the Main Kit.
